Electrodes for Electrochemistry
The impressive material properties of diamond make it the material of choice for the most challenging electrochemical processes and environments. Its electric conductivity and in particular its wide electrochemical window, make it possible for a diamond device to react to species that previously would not be detected or affected by other materials.
For example, diamond can achieve the direct oxidation of a number of specific organic species, something that would be impossible with titanium, platinum or gold electrodes. Furthermore, diamond is chemically inert, mechanically robust, non-fouling and non-porous. These qualities will extend the lifetime of diamond devices and allow them to operate under even the harshest of conditions. The bio-compatibility of diamond makes it suitable for use in pharmaceutical, food and environmental applications. The wide electrochemical window makes diamond anodes particularly suitable for the anodic treatment of wastewater and industrial effluents. This material can also be cut by EDM.
