Susan Fletcher Watts has joined Element Six Ltd to take up the new role of Group Intellectual Property Attorney. As such, Susan will have responsibility for managing the group’s growing patent portfolio which spans the use of synthetic diamond and other advanced materials in novel applications across a broad range of industries.
A chemist by training, Susan Fletcher Watts comes to Element Six with over 20 years' experience as both a chartered UK and European patent attorney; having worked with a number of leading international companies including Courtaulds, Esso, and BAE Systems. She has broad experience of working with technologies that have ranged from polymer synthesis to rocket science. Most recently, she was head of the multinational Intellectual Property department at Infineum, a company jointly owned by ExxonMobil and Shell where her work dealt largely with the business of petroleum additives. Infineum is a high technology company that develops, manufactures and markets lubricant and fuel additives for a broad range of automotive, diesel and marine applications.
Susan says that there are many attractions in joining Element Six at this growth period in its history not least the challenge of building a new department with responsibilities throughout the E6 world. She is looking forward to working with E6 colleagues in R&D and the businesses to build on the existing patent portfolio and to strengthen its value. "This position is just what I am looking for at this stage in my career," comments Susan. "It is relatively rare to have the opportunity to create a company IP Group. To be able to combine this with technology and applications as exciting as that offered by diamond and other superhard materials, is a chance not to be missed!"
Based in Ascot, where Element Six has its UK research and development centre as well as manufacturing of advanced diamond material by chemical vapour deposition synthesis, Susan Fletcher Watts will report directly to Christian Hultner, CEO of Element Six.
