Metal encapsulated synthetic diamond
Encapsulation allows regular distribution of synthetic diamond particles on tool segments without the use of placement machines.
Encapsulation of synthetic diamond is where the metal bond material is built up around the synthetic diamond particle to the extent that the particle is completely enveloped by a sufficient quantity of bond powder to subsequently produce the sintered segment. Encapsulating the synthetic diamond particles in a layer of metal bond powder prior to pressing or sintering achieves a homogenous distribution of synthetic diamond within the tool segment.
Element Six can supply custom-made metal-bond encapsulated synthetic diamond abrasives where all the customer requirements are adhered to, including bond composition, encapsulated particle strength, synthetic diamond concentration and synthetic diamond grade.
The development of a new Element Six proprietary technology improves significantly on conventional techniques in its ability to deliver lower manufacturing costs. In addition, the capability now exists to encapsulate particles with any bond material to any thickness, and to tailor the pellet strength and engineer functional gradients within the bond matrix - thereby opening up new possibilities in abrasive tool design.
