SCD (silicon cemented diamond)
Element Six silicon cemented diamond (SCD) composite is a novel synthetic diamond-enhanced ceramic composite material with exceptional hardness, stiffness and thermal properties.
SCD exhibits excellent wear resistance combined with low weight and an outstanding ability to resist thermal degradation at high temperatures. The Element Six SCD product range features varying proportions of synthetic diamond, silicon carbide and silicon, as well as synthetic diamond grain size.
SCD is an ideal choice for a wide variety of applications requiring long-term stability and reliability. For thermal products, such application areas include microprocessors, lighting and space equipment.
Wear applications
Element Six SCD exhibits extreme wear resistance, which in combination with its exceptional stiffness and thermal properties, present a unique set of material characteristics and hence opportunities for new or existing performance driven wear part application demands.
Processing & formats
Element Six SCD is produced using a liquid phase infiltration process, with parts manufactured to a net shape. SCD is available in several grades including an EDM machinable grade, which allows complex parts to be manufactured for a variety of wear part applications.
Thermal characteristics
Element Six SCD has an excellent thermal stability coupled with a small coefficient of thermal expansion, and these combine to make SCD ideal for use in both high and low temperature wear environments.
