LUXEMBOURG—May 26, 2016Element Six, the world leader in synthetic diamond technology supermaterials and member of The De Beers Group of Companies, today announced its recent participation at Quantum Europe 2016: A New Era of Technology, held May 17-18 in Amsterdam. Among 18 invited companies and academic groups, Element Six showcased its expertise, research capabilities, and synthetic diamond materials in quantum technology to support a broad industry initiative to develop a comprehensive strategy for Europe to remain at the forefront of this new era of technology.

“Quantum technology is on an amazing course thus far marked with extreme innovation and groundbreaking achievements,” commented Daniel Twitchen, Director of Strategic Product Development at Element Six. “Synthetic diamond’s unique properties have demonstrated that it is an ideal material for atom-like qubits, and Element Six is thrilled to be a part of key scientific developments where diamond’s unique properties have been leveraged. We look forward to continuing our close research and development with academic partners, and supporting the new European initiative to advance the state of quantum technologies.”

Element Six is an established figure in worldwide developments of quantum technologies based on its synthetic diamond which has enabled significant breakthroughs. In 2015 researchers at Delft University of Technology used specially engineered Element Six diamonds in the first successful demonstration of a loophole-free Bell test of quantum entanglement. The company’s synthetic diamond material fabricated using chemical vapor deposition (CVD) was also at the heart of an experiment by MIT and Brookhaven National Laboratory, where researchers fabricated optical structures around specific atom-like defects in the diamond lattice while maintaining exceptional quantum properties.

“With this initiative, Europe will become a world leader in quantum technologies with support from Innovate UK,” commented Richard Murray, lead technologist for emerging technologies and industries at Innovate UK and co-author of the Quantum Manifesto. “Element Six’s Global Innovation Centre in Harwell Oxford is a perfect example of a dedicated research team demonstrating  diamond as a leading quantum material, and I expect to see quantum technologies based on diamond appearing in the market in the future.”
