SANTA CLARA, Calif., (June 12, 2015)—Element Six, the world leader in synthetic diamond supermaterials and member of The De Beers Group of Companies, will be presenting two papers at the Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics/Europe and the European Quantum Electronics Conference (CLEO/Europe-EQEC) on Wednesday, June 24. Andrew Bennett, principal research scientist at Element Six, will present an invited paper titled “Diamond—An Engineer’s Best Friend,” and Eugene Anoikin, manager of product applications and engineering at Element Six, will present a session titled “Diamond Optical Windows with Sub-Wavelength Surface Structures.” CLEO/Europe-EQEC is the benchmark conference where European researchers present their most groundbreaking results in a wide range of areas in optics and applied photonics. The event will be held at the ICM Centre of the New Munich Trade Fair Centre in Munich, Germany.

Session: CE-10: Optical Devices Based on Diamond and Silica

Date and Time: Wednesday, June 24; 8:30-9:00 a.m. CEST

Title: “Diamond Optical Windows with Sub-Wavelength Surface Structures”

Location: ICM Centre; Room 14b

Authored by Andrew Bennett and Daniel Twitchen, “Diamond—An Engineer’s Best Friend,” explores diamond’s remarkable physical and chemical properties and its performance capabilities as an optical engineering material. Element Six’s Bennett will review and explore several case studies, summarizing key progress in diamond fabrication techniques, utilizing chemical vapour deposition (CVD) synthesis and mechanical and chemical processing, as well as solutions for integration such as mounting and anti-reflective coatings.

Authored by Eugene Anoikin and Alexander Muhr, “Diamond Optical Windows with Sub-Wavelength Surface Structures,” will be presented by Element Six’s Anoikin. He will address design and fabrication of sub-wavelength structured surfaces (SWS) on synthetic diamond windows. Additionally, Anoikin will touch on how diamond has become a material of choice for high power laser windows in multi-kilowatt CO2 laser systems, a key enabler of applications such as EUV lithography.

If you’re interested in speaking with Bennett, Anoikin or Element Six’s General Manager, Henk de Wit, at the show to discuss either presentation or learn how diamond is the superior optical material for high power lasers, please contact Havas Formula at e6@formulapr.com to coordinate an in-person meeting.
