The outstanding commitment of Element Six’s Rachael Ambury has been recognised with this prestigious award
Dr Rachael Ambury, Senior Scientist and Project Lead at Element Six, is the 2019 recipient of the prestigious Robert Perrin Award from the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3). The award recognises the outstanding and continued commitment of an individual working in industry or university to outreach activity focused on materials science and technology. Outreach events are targeted at students aged 11 – 19, with the aim of helping them discover the possibilities that a career in science or technology could hold.
During her time at Element Six, Rachael instigated and continues to head-up a company outreach programme with her colleague Dr Matthew Markham, based at the Element Six Global Innovation Centre. Rachael has worked alongside IOM3 for a number of years to deliver outreach sessions to school and college-level students that are focused on promoting and inspiring a passion for STEM-based subjects. Rachael also works in conjunction with the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, and in particular the Schools Affiliate Scheme to promote materials science and technology.
Her outreach work extends from school and college visits, to securing E6’s place at events such as the 2018 IF Science Festival in Oxford, where practical demonstrations of the unique properties and diverse applications of synthetic diamond were showcased to the general public. The programme has encouraged Element Six employees to get involved with outreach events, and has presented a unique and insightful way to reach and engage students.
Element Six is proud to see that Rachael’s continued dedication to outreach events has been deemed worthy of recognition by IOM3 and the Worshipful Company of Armourers and Brasiers. Rachael was presented with the award at IOM3's 150th Gala Dinner & Premier Awards Evening, which took place on 11th July 2019.
