OPERATIONAL RISK MANAGEMENT

We have a multi-tier operational risk management approach across the Group. This includes business baseline risk assessments and identification and control of priority unwanted events (PUE’s). Furthermore, we have implemented an impact, risk and opportunity-based double materiality ESG assessment to identify the material ESG impacts, risks and opportunities across our sites.

Each site conducts and documents local ESG related risk assessments to identify and manage risks and opportunities relevant to the local operations. Along with the integrated management system requirements, this informs strategies, metrics and objectives required to manage the identified risks and opportunities.

MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

GOVERNANCE

STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT

Accredited health, safety and environmental management systems (EMS) are implemented across all E6 sites to drive continuous improvement in environmental, health and safety and energy performance.

We prioritise safety and manage operational risks, in line with the De Beers Group Beyond Zero goal, and maintain emergency response procedures, which are continuously monitored and routinely practiced, ensuring rapid response in the event of environmental or health and safety related incidents.

The Element Six Executive Committee meets bi-annually on the dedicated topic of health, safety, environment and sustainability (HSES), although key topics can be raised for review at any time.

Our HSES functions and site management teams have direct reporting lines to the Executive Committee.

The E6 HSES teams also contribute to the De Beers Group sustainability committee.

We consolidate metrics and targets via Group reporting platforms. In turn, these are used for performance tracking and reporting, including to shareholders.

We strive to be good citizens and operate in harmony with our local communities as well as our internal and external stakeholders.

We support our communities through outreach, local investment and charity initiatives, such as Ambassadors for Good, as well as employment opportunities.

We seek to undertake consultation and provide clear communication where there may be risks or opportunities affecting external communities and stakeholders.

We welcome feedback and engagement at any time – contact us.

ISO ACCREDITATION ACROSS OUR OPERATIONS

All our operational sites are set up with integrated and certified management systems underpinning our HSES principles. These include ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and ISO 45001 Health and Safety Management System, in addition to ISO 9001 through our certifying body SGS who independently audit our systems and procedures annually.

ISO 14001 and 45001 are internationally recognised standards for HSES management systems. They provide a framework for organisations to design and implement an effective management system and continually improve performance.

The implementation of ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems across our production sites is an important driver to reduce energy intensity. Our site in Shannon, Ireland was awarded ISO 50001 in 2021, our site in Burghaun, Germany received the certification in 2023 and our site in Springs, South Africa achieved the certification in 2024.

Please note: we review and update our certification library below on a quarterly basis.
